Why Vote Green?
Green politics is the electoral expression of the broad movement for the “greening of society,” which is the challenge of our times.
Climate change, soil and aquifer depletion, deforestation, and the other ecological crises we face show that our civilizations path is unsustainable and we need to find new ways forward.
Our current society has many aspects that are not only ecologically ruinous but also socially unjust. Corporate dominance, militarism, unbridled growth, hyper-exploitation of resources, globalization, and extreme
concentrations of wealth and power cause our quality of life to suffer, as well as that of other Beings on the planet
To reverse these troubling trends and move toward a healthier and better-balanced social reality, a Green society would be guided by alternative values, such as ecology, community, democracy, equality, justice, and peace. We believe that a brighter future awaits us if we can make this transition. It will take some time, but as each succeeding generation moves, however incrementally. toward more sustainable ways of life, our ultimate goals — to “save the planet” and foster social sanity — can be realized.
Voting Green is just one step in the movement for a new society, but an important one. Government policies can either facilitate the needed transition or hinder it. Therefore, getting Greens into positions of influence and authority, advocating for an explicit program for social change, is a significant and necessary achievement.
The movement for Green politics is growing worldwide – there are Green parties now in almost 100 countries. This gives us reason for hope for our collective future. You can help keep the Green wave moving by supporting my campaign and voting for Henry Lawrence, November 2014.
October 4 & 5 in beautiful downtown Panama City the Bay Greens will be hosting another petition gathering event. This past Friday Fest was a blast because so many folks came out to help and the crowd was the best I can remember. Plus we had a great location in front of the Visual Arts Center and across from the Martin Theater. I’ve requested the same space for Octoberfest but not sure if it will be possible.
Just an update on petition gathering for Campaign 2014: Turned in 124 petitions today to the Supervisor of Elections after the NO WAR in Syria Rally. There were 17 activists who came out and TV 7 was there along with TV 13, who came late, and also a reporter from the News Herald, so we should get some decent coverage from that.
Thanks to ALL….
FridayFest on September 6, 2013 was a great night in downtown Panama City! Thank you to all our volunteers who came out to help. A big thank you also to everyone who stopped by the Green booth to chat about the local issues that are so important to all of us, and to everyone who signed petitions. We can’t do the work of making Bay County a better place to live and work without your input and help.
Henry Lawrence is running for Florida House of Representatives, District 6, and we are working hard to get him on the ballot for 2014 by collecting Candidate Petitions. Henry needs 1,070 petitions to qualify, and the deadline is June 14-20 of 2014. Also the Bay Greens are collecting petitions for Move To Amend to overturn Citizens United. You can stop by the Green Booth for Oktoberfest (04 and 05 October 2013) to sign the petition to overturn Citizen’s United, or you can go online at www.movetoamend.org and sign the petition to overturn Citizen’s United. United For Care is collecting petitions for the Florida Medical Marijuana amendment.
